3 Day Refresh Results

3 day refresh results

If you've been following my blog for a while, you know that I've done my fair share of cleanses! I just finished The Ultimate Reset, which is a 21 day cleanse that completely transforms your body and mindset. It significantly altered the way I think about food, and I think it is one of my biggest accomplishments to date!

I feel I've had so much experience with cleanses over the last few months and I think they get a bad reputation because we don't understand that there's a way to do them safely.

Yes they're incredibly challenging because your body is detoxing and very possibly addicted to sugary carbs and bad food (guilty!), but that's part of the process.

Yes, you will be in hunger mode and crave the foods your body is used to consuming--that's normal.

I've found that by doing quick 3 day cleanses where I'm still eating whole, real foods and drinking nutrient dense and protein packed shakes, I feel so light, energized, and refreshed afterwards. I don't go crazy when I finish a cleanse. My body feels too good. I don't want to ruin my progress, and I know the negative effects that happen when I binge or eat certain foods (hello dairy).

Here is a quick introduction on what the 3 Day Refresh cleanse is:

I've done this cleanse at least 3 times, this being my fourth, and my experience keeps getting better. I'm used to the hunger pangs, the cravings, and what to do when I am in that "starvation mode." I have to tune out social media, try not to run errands where I'm surrounded by food, and remember WHY I started it.

Day 1 was pretty simple. My best advice would be to make sure you are PREPPED ahead of time!
I had gone grocery shopping, and you really don't need that much food. To be honest, you're probably saving money by doing this cleanse (even considering the low cost of it) because you're not going out, consuming alcohol, going to the grocery store, etc. I spend too much on those things during the week, but when I'm cleansing, I'm much more productive, I stay busy to keep my mind on other things, and I never deviate.

3 day refresh

This was part of my lunch for my quick non-starvation cleanse on day 2. It was my Vanilla Fresh protein shake, 1 1/2 tsp unsalted almond butter (healthy fat), 5 baby carrots, and a 1/2 banana. This was incredibly filling and I actually tracked the calories I consumed while on this cleanse and this was after lunch, and I already had close to 700!

I'm not depriving my body, I'm filling it with what it NEEDS.

vegan cleanse

Regarding what you can drink, obviously a lot of water. You're also allowed optional morning, afternoon, and evening caffeine-free herbal tea. I definitely had this between meals to keep me full and change up the flavors.

3 day refresh exercise

I always get asked if you can do any form of exercise while doing a cleanse like the 3 Day Refresh. Well, I stick to low impact. I will usually do PiYo, yoga from the 21 Day Fix/21 Day Fix Extreme, or go for a walk. It really depends on how I'm feeling, but my go-to classes for this particular cleanse (that I've done almost every time) are 21 Day Fix Yoga, PiYo Upper, and PiYo Lower. I actually did PiYo: Sweat on Day 2 and it kicked my butt and I probably burned too many calories, lol!
If you're interested in seeing any low impact exercise classes you can do during this cleanse, they are available via Beachbody on Demand. To see the workouts I did on the Ultimate Reset, that you could do during this cleanse, check out this blog.

3 day refresh dinner

The meals on this cleanse are super simple. For breakfast, you have Shakeology blended with fruit. I did Chocolate Vegan Shakeology (my fave) with frozen strawberries and water--SO good and energizing! An hour later you can have herbal tea. An hour after that, you have your fiber sweep, which is a digestive health drink you mix and drink super fast. You'll be full from this.

Your lunch is super simple (as shown above). You blend a vanilla fresh shake with water, another serving of fruit, and you have 1 serving of veggies and a healthy fat--you can use the example above. That's what I had for every day.

Your afternoon snack is just one serving of veggies (I did 4 baby carrots because it's just easy) and a teaspoon of coconut oil for a healthy fat.

Again you have the option of Afternoon tea and then you have dinner prepped! There are several delicious recipes in the guide, but I stuck with Coconut Steamed Veggies the first two days, and the last night I had baked asparagus with olive oil and slivered almonds. Several of these recipes also appear in the 21 Day Ultimate Reset, so I'm used to them and they're filling too! :)

Here is a recap of my first 3 day refresh experience on day 3:

Overall, I would recommend this cleanse to anyone who wants to break bad habits and kickstart their health. I lose about 3-5 pounds every single time I do this cleanse. This time I lost 4.4 pounds in 2 days, and my final results were as follows:

I lost 4.5 pounds, and 5 inches total! The inches lost came from my waist, legs, and "pooch" area of my lower stomach which I always measure because that's where the bloat shows! It's just proof that this cleanse has helped me de-bloat and feel super refreshed! I feel amazing and ready to get back into my insane workout routine! I can't wait to crush my workout, and what better way to do so than in my Mean Girls Tank, fave booty shorts, and Lorna Jane headband? ;)

Disney phone case

Definitely consider doing this if you have a big event coming up (I'm traveling and have a photoshoot so it was perfect timing!), haven't been eating well and need to get back on track, or just want to refresh your body and start living a healthy lifestyle. I've had several family members, friends, and challengers do this with AMAZING success, each person losing up to 7 pounds in 3 days.
Since this is such a quick cleanse, it's important to stay on track afterwards, but you can do this up to once a month if need be!

If you have any questions about this cleanse or want to join me,  I can help you through it and beyond, providing you with a free plant-based food guide and 2 other meal plans to help with you after your cleanse as well!

Why Wait?

Clean Eating

If I waited to start the biggest events in my life, I never would have accomplished them. You just have to make that leap. I owe my proudest moments to letting go and just jumping in even though the timing may not have been perfect.

I started my fitness journey as an unemployed full time college student. That means I was broke, didn't have time or money to meal prep, get on a program, or really care. But I realized enough was enough, and just started! I didn't do a ton of research, I had a lot of trial and error, but I made it happen, and 25 pounds later, I got my health back and my relationships improved immensely.

When I climbed Half Dome, I did not think I was ready, but the permits had a deadline. I'd only completed month 1 of my program yet knew it was something I had to do. And I conquered it.

When I made the commitment to become a coach, I was terrified. But I'm a college student. But I hardly have time to read this damn novel. But I'm not in amazing shape. But I'm young so no one will listen to me. But how can I inspire others?

My self doubt and excuses about the timing being off did not stop me from making the leap, because I had a gut feeling that I would do this with passion. I have, and I wake up every morning so happy that I said to myself "you only live once" and made that leap. There will never be a time in your life where it's perfect to get outside of your comfort zone. You have to do that everyday. I am a big believer in things happening for a reason, so when opportunity presents itself, I grab onto it.

Don't wait. Start living your BEST life today!  If you want to do what I did and make that leap, check out my last blog,  I'd love to hear from you! :)

Quick Summertime Cleanse

cleanse

Have you ever tried a cleanse before? I now consider myself to be pretty well versed in cleansing, having done so many over the course of my fitness journey. The most difficult one I've ever done has been the Ultimate Reset, which I'm sure you have seen all over my blog and social media. However, I am going to be traveling soon and having a photo shoot. I am looking for 5 women who want to drop 3-5 pounds in a healthy way to feel more confident for summer!

No, this is not a quick fix. I don't believe in those. It is only 3 days, yes, but you will FEEL amazing afterwards and want to carry on with healthy habits long after the 3 days are over!

I've done this cleanse multiple times, so I know the benefits. It's a non-starvation vegan cleanse, and there are daily protein shakes you drink, fiber drinks, super foods, you can have veggies as a snack, and you also get a healthy and delicious vegan dinner! Therefore, you are not always hungry, you can still do low impact workouts (I'll be doing PiYo, but you can walk or do yoga), and you will have my support throughout each day. This means daily check ins, tips, motivation to stay on track, and my coaching for life :)

There is an investment to participate, like all cleanses, but I set you up for longer than just 3 days. Yes, your kit will include the cleanse, which is called the 3 Day Refresh, but you also get a month supply of the most nutrient dense meal replacement that has helped me tremendously to stay on track.  I also provide you with a vegan friendly/vegetarian meal plan, omnivore meal plan, and plant-based food guide to help you keep up with your healthy habits and establish a lifestyle change after your Refresh is over!

If you are interested in making a change before the beach season hits, and if you are ready to invest in your health, please shoot me an email at laurenmchugh14@gmail.com or fill out the application below!

I can't wait to get started!

**You must be 18 or older and from the U.S. or Canada to Apply!**

21 Day Beachbody Ultimate Reset Results & Review

Ultimate Reset Results

Results are in!! I can't believe I got through this 21 Day Beast of a Cleanse! I'm so incredibly proud of myself! So, here they are.
My Ultimate Reset Results: I lost 12 pounds and over 12 inches! Even though my objective was not weightloss, I'm in shock that I lost that much from JUST changing my nutrition. Veganism is where it's at ☺️🙌 I'm slowly bringing other foods back into my diet, but dairy will be very rare 🙅 I've simply come too far and learned so much about my own health over the past 3 weeks to revert back to my old ways!

I'm going to break down some common questions that people have asked me regarding this cleanse and if you have ANY other questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me! You can email me at laurenmchugh14@gmail.com or fill out the form below if you're ready to take on this cleanse!! (or any other program)

For an introduction on this program, click here or watch the quick video below!

As you know by now, there are 3 Phases to this cleanse. I will give a brief overview of my experience in each:

Phase 1: Reclaim

This phase was all about gradually removing animal products and refined foods from your diet. However, I did this as a vegan so I started off without any animal products whatsoever. I actually really enjoyed this phase along with the recipes. I was not a fan of tempeh, but I'm glad I tried it, and I just substituted other recipes during those meals. My favorite meal of this phase has to be the Southwestern Veggie Taco from Day 2 . It was amazing! My biggest struggle during this phase was prepping my meals. I highly recommend prepping all the meals for the week in bulk the night before, right after you go to Whole Foods!

Ultimate Reset Recipes

Overall, this phase went the best. I've done several 3 Day Refreshes  to prepare for this, and honestly I think those were more difficult. In the Ultimate Reset you are eating big portions, 3 times a day, chugging water (I would drink on average 2 gallons of distilled water per day), you have a snack (always a green apple and vegan shakeology for me), and you are taking supplements which means even more water! I never really got super hungry until the later phases!

Workouts:

The workouts I did from my Ultimate Reset Calendar during this phase were all available on Beachbody on Demand or I owned them. They were the following: 21 Day Fix, PiYo, Insanity Max: 30, Insanity The Asylum, and 21 Day Fix Extreme. I also went on a walk and tried to get in nature as much as possible! :)

Phase 2: Release

This phase transitions to zero animal products and you're now a full vegan (if not already)! This was the detox week, which meant taking a super thick detox powder three times a day, which was not all that great, BUT you just need to add more water and chug it--not that bad really. Starting in week 2, I only ate fruit for breakfast, which I found refreshing and energizing. I tried so many new veggies in this phase, but I would say my favorite recipe was the Hearty Vegetable Miso Soup from Day 12. It was actually pretty filling, and way better than I expected! That's actually on my menu tonight, lol! I am taking away so many recipes from this cleanse, AND my boyfriend is actually eating more veggies now! :)

Ultimate Reset Meals

Workouts:

In this phase, my workouts were from the following programs: Turbo Fire, P90X3, Tai Cheng, 21 Day Fix, PiYo, and 21 Day Fix Extreme. Of course, I also walked a few days a week as well.

I shouldn't really say workouts though, because everything was low impact. What I mean by this is that the classes were either the recovery workouts of a program, yoga, or a form of yoga and pilates called PiYo where I didn't burn a lot of calories. I did this mainly to stay sane, to take some time to clear my head, and stretching was very important as your body does get sore from this cleanse.

Phase 3: Restore

This phase eliminated grains and legumes to focus on just a fruit and veggie based diet. This was the hardest phase for me because I'm used to eating carbs. I had headaches off and on during this last week, but I held strong. I didn't go out, I went on some walks, and I really had to dig deep here to pull myself through. I had several temptations along the way with big events happening, but my willpower was insane. I have never been this determined to get through a cleanse completely based on nutrition, but I did it! In this phase, I would say my favorite recipes were the Curried Cauliflower from Day 16 which I actually changed a bit and the Asian Stir Fry from Day 20.

Cauliflower Recipe
Spicy Cayenne Cauliflower

Vegetarian Stir Fry
Asian Stir Fry

Workouts:

The workout classes I did during this phase were from the following programs: Insanity Max: 30, 21 Day Fix, PiYo, Turbo Fire, Tai Cheng, and P90X3. I didn't have as much energy from these, so I walked a few days instead, and made sure to modify even more so I wouldn't expend too much energy. I have to say though, I think this is the week my body started "cleansing" the most. I noticed I would break out a bit, then my skin would glow, then I would get exhausted, then I would have an amazing workout and be able to go harder than anticipated, then I'd get a headache...so I was really all over the place. From what I read, people experience that throughout all the phases, but for me it was mostly during this one. This is just proof to me that I obviously eat way too many carbs, and I need to focus on incorporating mostly fruits and vegetables into my diet (which I have!).

So that was an overview of each phase, and now I want to delve into some questions I received and some common ones about this cleanse. Again, if you'd like more details regarding the supplements I took, workout programs I did, or more information about this cleanse, please feel free to fill out the form below or shoot me an email at laurenmchugh14@gmail.com :)

FAQ's about the Ultimate Reset

1. Who can/should do this cleanse?

Honestly, anyone! I say this because sometimes people just don't know where to turn to when they first start their fitness journey. A lot of people don't know what they are interested in, they have bad eating habits, and some people have approached me who have injuries and can't do much as it is. That said, it all starts with nutrition, or, it should. If you can go 21 days and create a total lifestyle change when it comes to your nutrition, while you are also walking and maybe doing some yoga, you can really conquer anything else. Nutrition is the #1 struggle I've come across with all my challengers, myself included. Get that in control, change your lifestyle, and adding workouts into the mix will be super easy--plus you'll see INSANE results!!

2. Are the recipes Filling and can a Meat Eater do this?

Yes, and absolutely! I'm in a support group on Facebook with many people who are omnivores/love meat. The Ultimate Reset gradually takes animal products out in the first week so it's not just a completely drastic diet change. It can be if you decide to do it as a vegan, but you'll notice your body not needing to depend on animal products, you'll feel lighter, healthier, leaner, and your taste buds will also change and adapt to different plant recipes! I know this because I used to eat dairy and this cleanse really helped me try new veggies and actually taste them without the cheese, butter, and horrible products we disguise them with--when they're meant to be tasted alone.

Of course, it might be a little more difficult for a meat eater, and I would recommend doing a short 3 day Refresh to sort of "train" for this, but it's very possible!

Ultimate Reset Vegan Recipe
I mean look at this amazing salad goodness! <3

3. What kind of water do you drink? How much?

I only drank distilled water with the added Mineralize supplement, and I would get gallons on sale at Safeway-- 5 for 5$! I went through about 2 per day, and used this water to also cook with. It tasted a little weird at first, but you get used to it. Trust me, when you go back to your Brita water after, you will notice a huge change! The point of this Reset is to detox, not take in more impurities, so quality of water is very important.

Ultimate Reset Review

4. Is exercise even Allowed? What kind?

According to the Ultimate Reset guide, "It's best not to do any strenuous exercise during the next 3 weeks. When you think about it, the Reset is already giving your body a serious internal workout. It's important to allow your nervous system to remain in a relaxed state, and to refrain from asking your body to repair muscle tissue at the same time it's cleansing and releasing toxins." That said, you can stretch, walk, and do restorative yoga. So basically, everything I have on my calendar is ok if you are modifying and not exerting too much energy. I was not a big fan of Tai Cheng, but an example class does come with the program.

5. When Should I do the Ultimate Reset?

When you are READY to fully commit 100%! You should not be traveling, you should have an organized schedule, and have the mindset to really NEED this. You need that strong WHY of why you need this for yourself, your family, your goals, and your lifestyle. It's best to do when you finish a workout program, when you're really in a rut with your nutrition (hello, perfect to start in the new year), or if you are injured! If you are injured physically, this is only a program based on nutrition so it could be a great time to focus on this and not have the excuse of not being able to workout. You also cannot do this while pregnant, obviously.

6. What else should I be Doing to Help me with this Cleanse?

GET SUPPORT! Like ASAP! When I was researching this cleanse, I found hardly anything on doing it as a vegan, or any support groups. Yes, there are Facebook groups with lots of information, but not daily support, accountability, and recipes. I have you covered with that. I have every single day available to you, daily video check ins, daily recipes, tips, advice, and I also run challenges where anyone doing a cleanse like this or the 3 day refresh can be in a group with the grocery lists, meal prep lists, and my daily support to get through every phase. You can feel free to post your questions, recipes, advice, ups, downs, and whatever you want! I know how hard this is because I went through this alone...and I don't want anyone else to ever have to do that. You need the support.

PREP! You absolutely 100% need to meal prep. I work from home so I cooked every single meal, and it was still a pain. My meals took a long time, including prep and dishes at every meal. Prep in advance, do it with your spouse, and make it fun. Also, if you have a 9-5 job, you need to use the supplement caddy, put timers on your phone of when to take them and your alkalinize, and take your breaks accordingly. Make sure you ALWAYS have water with you wherever you go (because trust me you'll be like a camel during this), and always eat on time. Of course, it's fine if you slip up every now and then on when to take stuff, but I never did and I know I did this to the best of my ability.

GET OUTSIDE! Go out in nature. Go for a walk. Soak up the sun. You need it and you will look at the world differently. You will understand what I mean once you've done about a week of this reset. Trust me, get outside.

BREATHE. This is why I did yoga so often. It helped me relax, and those deep breaths help you to further detox, energize your cells, really relax, and stay focused.

SLEEP. A common human need, yes, but especially during this cleanse. You need a healthy sleep cycle to fully rejuvenate, and it's important to do so. You'll be pretty tired the first few days, so try to establish a great sleep schedule early on.

COLD BLAST. What...? In the "Going the Extra Mile" section of the Reset guide, there is a part that says to end your showers with a blast of cold water. I remember hearing that Tony Robbins (my favorite mentor ever) does this every single day, and he has to be the most energetic uplifting person ever, so I started doing it during this cleanse. You know what? I went from feeling sluggish after my warm shower to SUPER alive, rejuvenated, and refreshed. Apparently it also helps circulation.

AVOID TEMPTATION. Do not, and I repeat do not, watch stupid television. Instead, read a personal development book or watch the amazing nature documentaries on Netflix. Fill yourself with life, positivity, and happiness instead of McDonald's commercials and dumb reality tv. I made the mistake of watching some cooking shows and the struggle was real. Think happy thoughts and just watch a Disney movie.

Simple Zoodle Primavera Recipe

zoodle recipe
I've been wanting to try Zoodles for a while now and I finally got the chance the other night! I kept eyeing these while I would shop in the produce aisle while on my cleanse, so I knew I needed to try a recipe with them!
What are "Zoodles," you may ask? They are noodle-shaped veggies that were cut using a spiralizer. I did not use that because I purchased mine already spiraled at Whole Foods, but you can purchase them online and they range in price. I need to look into getting one myself!

Ingredients:

-Zoodles
-Veggies of choice: mine were onions, chopped and grilled with cayenne, minced garlic, and baby heirloom tomatoes
-Sauce: I used my favorite Engine 2 Red Bell Pepper Marinara that I got from Whole Foods
-Added toppings: I roasted cauliflower while my zoodles sat out and added olive oil, garlic, and cayenne pepper for an extra kick!

zoodles

However, this was how much came in one box. At Whole Foods, these pre-cut zucchini and squash noodles were about $6 and it was a really big portion for 2 people. Plus, you are adding more ingredients, but once I took them all out, I was shocked by how much were in there!

That said, first you will need to drain the noodles to remove excess water. When I was researching how to cook these, I came across some people saying they can turn out watery, so be sure to drain them. Knowing how to cook tofu, I laid them all out on several paper towels, added more towels on top, and put heavy objects to press down on the zoodles.

I did this for about 10 minutes and then squeezed each section to remove even more water. It's crazy how much water comes out! After squeezing them, I let them sit for a few more minutes, and then I sprinkled the veggies with sea salt, and put the heavy objects back on them. This is supposed to remove water quicker. I think the longer you let them sit, the better. Mine sat about 30-40 minutes with constant squeezing.

clean eating

Next, heat a skillet with 1 tbsp olive oil and add the zoodles. I had to divide mine up in two portions, and you want to do this so they cook evenly. You cook them like a stir fry, turning every couple minutes, and I actually cooked mine for a while because I wanted more of the pasta texture. I made sure to keep turning them, and each portion takes about 10 minutes because you cook the zoodles first, and then add your veggies, sauce, and toppings. In my case, I added my pre-cooked onions, and then cooked the baby heirloom tomatoes with the zoodles. I pushed down on some of them so the juice would blend with the zoodles, which turned out amazing!!

After a minute or so, I then added my Engine 2 Red Bell Pepper Marinara sauce and mixed for a few more minutes so it would be heated through and the zoodles evenly mixed with the sauce.

I then put the deliciousness in a bowl, and repeated the process for my boyfriend's dish. It might be easier to cook both portions at the same time on two different stove tops. More dishes but less cook time! :)

easy zoodle recipe

I loved the heirloom tomatoes in this dish, which is why I call it my primavera recipe! :) I was pleasantly surprised that the zoodles came out so soft and were cooked perfectly! The spiciness of the cayenne and garlic were amazing, and of course I mixed in some Sriracha at the end because I'm an addict, lol!

simple zoodle recipe

I topped the zoodles with my Roasted Cauliflower, which added amazing flavor, and it was done! This is a super simple recipe, and I'll probably be making this at least once a week because it was so flipping amazing! Pasta lovers unite, you will definitely be full and happy after downing this!!

Team High Voltage Coach Mentorship

Leaders Wanted! I'm so excited to be accepting 10 women into my Coach Mentorship program for May! These spots WILL fill up! The coaches who were picked for April are totally rocking their businesses already and I'm so excited to bring on 10 new ladies to the team! :)

A year ago I was a full-time college student about to graduate, with no plan as to what I wanted to do with my life. I'm sure many people can relate to this, but I had just started my health and fitness journey and I did not want a corporate job.

My weight has always fluctuated and I yo yo dieted like no other. As a vegetarian for over a decade, I basically only ate carbs. That was until I had a huge realization my last term of college that I was about to be out in the real world with no food to comfort me and I still hadn't gotten my health on track.
It was exactly a year ago that I made the leap and became an online fitness coach. No, I had no business experience or fitness and health certifications, but I had this fire in my belly to succeed at something for the first time in my life.

In the past year, I have built a business from home, without having to go through the stressful interview process and worry about getting a full-time job. I've lost over 30 pounds, gotten in the best shape of my life, and now social media, connecting with others, and helping people on their fitness journey is my full-time "job!"

If you've been stuck in a rut with your fitness, just started on your health journey, love helping others, and would like to make your own business from home, on your own schedule, I'd love to hear from you.

I am putting together a mentorship with 10 women only for the month of May. You will learn from me how to build your fitness business, pay it forward and help others, and no, you do not have to be a "salesperson" to become a coach. It's not about sales, it's about SHARING your journey, being that inspiration, and helping people along the way.

If you are passionate about health, fitness, helping others, and creating a life by your own design, please fill out the application below to apply, or email me at LaurenMcHugh14@gmail.com

*This is open to U.S. and Canadian residents only, and you must be 20 and older*

**Feel free to tag a friend below my post on Instagram (@laurenmchugh_14) who might be interested**

I can't wait to start our conversation!
