My Top 10 Steps to Gaining Self Esteem

"Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we'll ever do."

Do you know how incredibly powerful YOUR story is? We cannot change the past, but we can learn from it, own what makes us who we are, and spread that like wildfire.

I saw this post on social media that this extremely brave girl posted regarding her body image and how what you wear does not define nor justify anything that is said about or happens to you. It broke my heart knowing that women are still judged everywhere for what they wear (she was wearing a sports bra and shorts btw), even though our society is obsessed with objectification everywhere we go. Movies, billboards, ads, social media...

I was a feminist studies major with a concentration on sexuality studies, and as a feminist and coach, I feel the urge to always tell ANY BODY that your story is special, you are so important, you are on this Earth for a reason, and you are brave.

Own your story, share it with power and confidence, be vulnerable, wear whatever the hell you want, and boost your self esteem by spreading body positivity wherever you go <3

Here are my top 10 steps to gaining self-esteem (comment below if they help!):

1. Know Yourself and don't try to be anyone else. That will bring you down. "Sometimes I pretend to be normal. But it gets boring, So I go back to being me." <3

2. Find and Understand what makes you feel HAPPY! If you ever get down on yourself, immediately do those things!

3. Recognize your triggers, what gets you down, and find out why that happens.

4. Make crazy huge goals for yourself--I recommend making a dream board (but not with fake airbrushed people) with inspirational quotes, travel, workout clothes, etc!

5. Make deep connections--develop trusting relationships with people that LIFT you up :)

6. When you need help, ask. There's no shame in taking care of yourself and seeking answers.

7. Stand up for what you believe in. Own it, share it, and be too powerful and confident in yourself to stop.

8. Help someone in need. This is not only generous, but it also makes you realize your own worth and how you can help others even while working on yourself.

9. Have a mantra. Write it down. Journal, and reflect back on anything good that has happened to you THAT day. Thinking happy thoughts is great--writing them down and going back to them is even better.

10. Take care of yourself. Get out in nature, travel when you can, laugh often, exercise, breathe fresh air, do some yoga, and invite those friends to participate in good health with you.
