New Workout Schedule: Insanity Max 30 & Body Beast Hybrid

The past month and a half, I have been doing the at home workouts Body Beast and CIZE. While I have definitely seen a lot of progress (I climbed Half Dome and held on to those cables on the side of an 8,000 foot high mountain with success), I missed my insane cardio. My favorite program of all time (besides my soulmate workout, Turbo Fire), Insanity Max 30 was missing in my life!

I wanted to rectify the situation, so I took it upon myself to make some hybrid calendars with Body Beast and Insanity Max: 30. I will be starting on Month 2 since I'm on week 6, but I wanted to make these for anyone interested in the lifting aspect with the intense cardio involved.

Body Beast is an amazing program for all fitness levels. You can start out with low weight and see tremendous progress in just a few weeks--all from the comfort of your own home, no gym! If you want to lean out OR bulk, there are meal plans for your goals. If you love insane Cardio, Shaun T, and if you've heard of Insanity...Max 30 might be right for you! I did all 60 days of Insanity and it was the hardest program of my life. I was hesitant for this program (even though I freakin LOVE Shaun T and his programs), but I immediately fell in love with it. Only 30 minutes instead of 45-1 hour of insanity?! Yes please! ;)

Literally every time I finish a Max 30 class, I'm dripping with sweat and smiling. You don't even need a workout playlist--The background music is motivating and you can simply listen to Shaun T and crush your workout! I always get emotional when I dominate one of these workouts--they're so incredibly challenging, and you realize how amazing your body is!!

I can't believe the progress I've seen with just working out from home. I don't need to pay for an expensive gym membership, trainer, gas, equipment, or meal plans. My BODY is my equipment (as Shaun T says), and my color-coded portion control containers do the trick to keep me on track with my nutrition! Yes, you do need free weights and some equipment for Body Beast, but there is a modifier on the screen for "limited equipment," which is what I follow during my workouts :)

Body Beast and CIZE Month 2 Hybrid :)

It's time to start Month 2 of my Body Beast and CIZE hybrid workout schedule! I was so pleased with my month 1 results (TBA), that I made another hybrid for month 2!!

For Body Beast, I am now in the BULK phase, which means more intense workouts with shorter rest periods between sets. I loved the Chest workout I did today. It was only 30 minutes so I threw in a quick HIIT workout after! I love the flexibility of these programs, that I can do from my own home (or anywhere!).

Body Beast has definitely been a huge accomplishment for me, as it is a program that is very much outside of my comfort zone! I have done crossfit type/gym workouts where I always got hurt or would get bored so easily, but this is so easy to follow along, the modifier/dude to watch if you have limited equipment is simple to follow, and I just blast my Lifting Playlist to crush every workout! You also really don't need THAT much equipment, and if you are curious as to what this entire workout entails, feel free to email me at laurenmchugh14@gmail.com. I'd love to keep you accountable during the program and offer you several meal plans to follow as well! :)

Not to mention that CIZE is also SO MUCH FUN too! I love that I can BEAST out my workout, but then get my dance on the next day ;)

I am looking for 10 positive, motivating, and inspiring individuals to learn about how to help others change their lives through at-home fitness and nutrition programs. For the first 3-6 months, you will learn what I do with my business. I will walk you through everything step by step, and after a few months of following what I’ve shown you, your pay could be anywhere between 100-300$ weekly.

From there, you have the potential of it increasing double for the following 6-8 months. As a mentee, you are eligible for major incentives, such as paid trips for 2 and many other prizes and gifts. More importantly, you will be helping others get their health and fitness on track, while also working on yourself and lifestyle.

**You also receive elite social media and Instagram training, along with the opportunity to make a full-time income from the comfort of your own home (in yoga pants I might add!), and connect with people from all over who share the same interests as you!**

This has honestly changed my life in such a positive way, and my fitness journey has helped me do amazing things. Some of these include: traveling all over the U.S., attending a leadership retreat in Canada, losing 30 pounds, building an amazing team of like-minded girlbosses/fitness and health fanatics, working out with elite trainers, and making lifelong friends.

Top Songs to Lift To

Ok so I was just live on Periscope (Let's connect! @LaurenMcHugh7) talking about this...but here it is!! I was beasting out my leg workout today and thought...I could go SO much harder if I had a kickass playlist!! ;)


Here are my top 10 songs to LIFT to!! They are in no particular order...but yes Nelly had to be on there as well. It's mainly hardcore music because I find that is perfect for lifting!

Do you agree with these? I'm obsessed with all these songs and I was hoping it would be helpful to anyone who lifts weights, since my yoga/cardio/more relaxed workouts definitely would have different music, lol!

My Plant Based Lifestyle

As most of you probably know by now, I recently made the transition to a plant-based diet, which I’m following about 90% of the time. So I want to go over what exactly that is, how I “discovered it,” and also how it’s changed my eating habits!

I want to go over a few definitions. I posted about this on my like page, but I recently went to a concert and went to a food truck that was advertising vegan bowls.


 

 Obviously I was super pumped about that and although it wasn’t the best situation, if you are advertising something as “vegan,” that means it should not have any meat, dairy, eggs, or animal products in it. I get my order, and it not only has sour cream drizzed on top, but shredded cheese.

Vegetarian vs Vegan



Due to this experience (which has happened an innumerable amount of times), I want to clarify that I’m not a perfect vegan. I actually love cheese and it’s my weakness. However, dairy really hurts my stomach and I strive not to consume it--for nutritional and moral reasons as well. There are many levels of veganism, but from a nutrition stand point, that means strictly no meat, dairy, eggs, or animal products in food. A vegetarian, on the other hand, does not consume meat but can consume animal products such as dairy.

No, a vegetarian does not eat fish. That would be a pescatarian, even though sometimes people confuse the two. I know some might disagree, but that is my definition and a pretty well-known one as well. ;)



 Regarding a plant-based diet, my experience started several months ago when I watched the Forks Over Knives documentary on Netflix, followed by the Engine 2 Kitchen Rescue. I then ordered the Engine 2  Diet book, and I became obsessed with learning all about a purely plant-based diet. The Engine 2 Diet is basically just ridding your body of junk, to be honest. It is all whole foods, with no meat, dairy, refined, and processed foods. I see it as putting more fruits, veggies, and whole grains into your diet rather than just taking things out.

According to the Engine 2 Diet, adhere to these healthy guidelines: zero animal products, no added oils (ever), 100% whole grains, and minimal added sugar.

This is straight from the website and book. I have found that following this diet has significantly increased my energy, reduced any and all bloating, I’ve felt lighter, my attitude has changed to more positive, and overall I felt myself really changing.

After discovering this and trying a lot of the amazing recipes, I did a 21 day cleanse called the Ultimate Reset.  For more information on that and to view every single day of my journey, you can search for it on youtube or check out older blogs :)

But basically, the Ultimate Reset is a 3 week vegan cleanse—no dairy, no sugar, and minimal oils. I lost 12 pounds with it and it was by far the hardest cleanse I’ve ever had to do. I only consumed distilled water, ate mininmal carbs, and did yoga daily—no intense exercise!

This was a wakeup call for me, seeing as I felt amazing just from plants! My nutrition drastically changed, and after the cleanse I wanted to implement this into my daily lifestyle. Obviously, this is easier said than done, and no one is perfect, but I find that I am much healthier when I follow a completely plant-based style at least 90% of the time.



I don’t like to categorize myself as either a vegetarian or a vegan because I feel like those terms get thrown around too much and people don’t really understand what they mean. Like that food truck, I think the terms confuse people or it might just seem like a new fad. In reality, if you are plant-based or not, your way of eating is your lifestyle. How you choose to eat, what you call yourself, that’s all up to you. However, I do think it’s important to educate ourselves on these labels because it can be really difficult to eat places that aren’t specifically for that lifestyle. For example, labeling a vegetarian stirfy as such but putting chicken broth in it does NOT make it vegetarian. Labeling a vegan bowl as such and putting cheese in it actualy makes it vegetarian. I mean, it’s pretty simple really.

I always get asked if it’s difficult to go out to eat, and sometimes it is—when they label foods wrong. I’ve found that even at steak houses I can find something to eat. Actually you can EAT anywhere, just order off the menu!

Body Beast Progress

As most of you know by now, I've been doing a hybrid workout program with Body Beast and CIZE.

I haven't done a recent transformation in a WHILE, so I thought I'd share!! This hybrid program is with weight lifting (Body Beast) and a dance workout (CIZE), all from the comfort of my own home! 

I've been following it pretty spot on, and I'm entering week 4. I'll be real and upfront when I say that only 1 week I was super on point with my nutrition. 


I was meal prepping, cut out alcohol, and ate all plant-based. I hit a setback when I traveled back home. Whenever I'm away from my motivational boyfriend and surrounded by my favorite restaurants and fam, I fall off. (‪#‎realtalk‬) 💁

BUT, I still stuck to my workouts, I was also walking several times a day as well, meaning I got more sun and felt better due to the extra cardio. I was clearly not outside enough and I think this really helped with my attitude as well!


Now I'm ready to kick it up a notch!

 I woke up this morning feeling awesome, my fridge is packed with my Whole Foods trip (hello Superfoods and salads and plant based yumminess), and I'll be crushing a double workout today!
