Vegan in Disneyland

I have been researching this for almost a YEAR! After seeing the SAME videos, blogs, IG accounts, etc that basically said bring your own food if you're a vegan in Disneyland, hit up the fruit cart, and enjoy a Dole Whip...I knew something had to be done!

My favorite book to travel with...The Energy Bus

Come on...Most people know by now Dole Whip is Vegan....but bringing your own food into Disney is NOT part of the experience!

I am a huge Disney nerd if that's not apparent already. I LOVE the food there, always have, and splurge whenever I do take a vaca to Disneyland in Cali.

Calories don't count in Disneyland, so I thought I would breakdown my TOP fave foods that are not so boring, and give you other options I didn't get a chance to try. Locations, tips, and all the foods will be shared! I had a park hopper, so this includes both Disneyland AND California Adventure :)

Off to our Happy Place! <3

SO, if you are a struggling vegan, or just want some veg options for friends/family next time you have a magical adventure in Disneyland, please share this blog so I can help spread the Disney Vegan Awareness! <3

Let's dive in...My Top 5 FAVE Disney Eats (in no particular order):

1. Veggie Chili Cone:

Location--Cozy Cone Motel in Cars Land, Disney California Adventure

Let's talk flavor! When you go up to Cone 3, this will not be on the menu, but ask for the veggie chili! It's in a bread cone (kind of like pizza dough), and full of veggies! Lentils, carrots, and tomatoes are just a few! It tastes healthy, and is topped with Fritos for added crunch--perfect for a snack or light meal in between rides :)

I personally thought it was delicious, and an awesome option to eat in a long line, specifically in Cars Land (quick tip: always go in the single riders line...so much faster)!

2. Vegan Gumbo:

Snapchat Username: Dream4tmrw

Location: Royal St. Verdana (New Orleans Square), Right Above Pirates of the Caribbean

I apologize for the bad quality of this picture, but we ended up going here at night because of how few tables there are to sit at! But you can take this anywhere--sit on one of the stairs, try to grab a table, or go at night so there's not many people there! On the menu, it will say Vegetarian Gumbo, but it is vegan, along with the delicious bread bowl!

The bread totally makes this because the gumbo is not super thick, but delicious nonetheless! It has a little kick to it, and I'd say this would make a perfect late dinner. For Disney food, it was relatively cheap at $10.

3. Dark Chocolate Covered Raspberry Sorbet Bar

Location: Clarabelle's Hand Scooped Ice Cream
California Adventure, next door to Starbucks

Let's talk DESSERT! Disneyland is known for its amazing, over the top sugary treats, but as a vegan, we don't get to experience as much of it. Of course, Dole Whip is always a go-to if you're just visiting Disneyland, BUT check out this beauty!

Ask for the raspberry sorbet bar dipped in dark chocolate, and add dark chocolate chips! It tasted EXACTLY like a raspberry truffle from See's Candy. Like SPOT ON! This was definitely worth the sugar rush, and made me so happy that there were more options for sweets! I honestly would rather splurge on carbs, so I didn't make a huge effort to find sweets, but I highly recommend making this stop!

4. BBQ Veggie Kabob

Location: Bengal BBQ in Adventureland
Right Across from Indiana Jones and the Jungle Cruise

When you think "BBQ," vegan doesn't usually come to mind, but I've been hearing about this veggie skewer and had to give it a chance! Order the "Outback Vegetable Skewer," and you'll be pleasantly surprised! This a great snack but try to get there early--it's tough to eat this without having a place to put your plate!

I know it sounds boring...but it's seriously good!!

5. BBQ Tofu

Location: Riber Belle Terrace, Frontierland
Across from Pirates of the Caribbean

When I was exploring menus for where to eat at lunch, I saw this on this menu and my jaw dropped. Tofu?! In Disneyland?! YAS! Right when this restaurant opened, we only waited about 5 minutes (get there RIGHT at 11!). They even ask if you have allergies, so I said dairy and they gave me a separate menu. If you have gluten allergies, Disneyland is super allergy-friendly.

This comes fried or baked, and with baked beans but they have meat in them. So, the coleslaw is vinegar based and vegan, along with the tots. This was one of my absolute FAVE meals, but it was pretty pricy at about $20...still so worth it.

There you have it! My Top 5 vegan meals/treats/snacks in both Disneyland and California Adventure! I'll lay out more below, but isn't it amazing what research can do?! I was so pleasantly surprised by how many vegan options there were :)

Honorable Mentions:

Mickey Pretzel:

You can get these basically everywhere in Disneyland, and they taste like your basic pretzel. I added mustard to mine and this was a delicious, salty snack! :)

Vegan Burger:
Location: Carnation Cafe
I ate it too fast to take a picture, but this was an excellent, filling meal! At Carnation Cafe, be SURE to make reservations or your wait will be insanely long. I love that they call it "vegan burger," because so many veggie burgers are actually NOT vegan. Always check :)

Popcorn:
Location: ALL over Disneyland!
I had no idea when I was there, but this salty goodness is actually vegan and perfect to munch on in lines...but get those fast passes ;)

Portobello Mushroom and Louisiana Popcorn Rice

Location: Blue Bayou Restaurant, New Orleans Square
I've been wanting to go here forever, but as a picky vegan who is not a huge fan of mushrooms, we opted out. However, if you like romantic restaurants that are $30 a plate, lemme know how this is ;)

Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante in Frontierland
Almost all Mexican food can be made vegan--this is my fave food! Tacos, burritos, chips, salsa, guacamole, beans rice, just ask!

Pickles ;)
Location: ALL over both parks

Asian Rice Bowl--Tofu
Location: Lucky Fortune Cookery, California Adventure, Pacific Wharf
I had just eaten when I passed this place, but definitely check out the tofu bowl and edamame!

**At almost all the quick restaurants in Disneyland and California Adventure (Pizza Port, Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta, etc) you can get Pasta with marinara, Pizza without Cheese, and veganize a salad...but why do that when there are so many amazing options?!

Downtown Disney:

I honestly don't recommend going to Downtown Disney unless you just want to walk around, shop, or you have Starbucks giftcards and want to buy wine with them...yes you can do that at the Starbucks there! It's what I did ;)

Rainforest Cafe has two burger options: vegan burger and a portobello wrap, along with sides.

Tortilla Jo's has a lot on their menu you can also veganize...burritos for the win!

Other than those two, and maybe an Italian restaurant for pasta...I wouldn't venture far. The parks are magical and you can always fill up on yummy vegan snacks!

And that's it, folks! ;) If you enjoyed this blog, please pass it along! I know so many vegans who struggle with finding awesome food when they travel, so it's my mission to always find or create delicious options wherever I go! Disneyland during Christmas time happened to be full of amazing vegan options, beautiful decorations, and so much magic :)

As a token of my appreciation for sharing this, send me an email if you'd like a *free* 7 day vegetarian/vegan friendly meal plan! :)

Have a magical time in Disney, my vegan friends!

Easy Vegan Hot Chocolate

This is the face of a girl who found vegan marshmallows at Whole Foods and had to find a hot chocolate recipe to go with them! :)

Even though the holidays are winding down, I still think this needed to be shared! Curl up by the fire, and have a warm mug of cruelty-free goodness! <3

All products found at Whole Foods:

Ingredients:

1 cup cashew milk with a splash of almond milk (but any type will work!)
2 tbsp organic cacao powder
3 tsp coconut sugar

2 Dandies Vegan Marshmallows to top off the hot cocoa!

Mix them all in a mug, heat for about a minute (depending on how hot you like your cocoa), stir, then heat again, and then top with the mallows! NOM!

I believe Dandies can also be found at Trader Joes :)

*Tip: The cacao powder doesn't blend well, but it mixes better after heating the milk!

Enjoy!

HOW to Transition to VEGAN

how to go vegan

🍃 My TOP 5 tips on how to go VEGAN 👇🏻

1. Know WHY: the more research you do, the more passionate and committed you'll be. Seriously though. I'd recommend the Netflix documentaries Forks Over Knives, Cowspiracy, and Earthlings (free on youtube). There's no going back after that.

2. Start SMALL: Gradually removing animal products will basically wean you off them easier. Don't be so hard on yourself at first. I still mess up, read ingredients wrong, etc but I just do my BEST. You're already doing something pretty damn amazing for the world, just try removing one product at a time (like eggs, then cheese, and keep revisiting your WHY).

3. Go PUBLIC with it: No, I'm not talking preachy crazy person (because let's be real, after watching those documentaries we all want to get that way...been there!), but tell your closest friends, significant other, and/or support groups! This way you stay more accountable--you can also invite these people to do it with you and/or do their research too.

4. Get SUPPORT: This goes hand in hand with going public with it, but there are SO many amazing resources to help you on this journey! I have this blog to help, and I'm here if you ever want guidance, but there are also great groups online, facebook pages, and an awesome community. You don't want to be in this alone! :)

vegan meal prep

5. Get EXCITED and TRY new foods! I think this was most difficult for me at first. I went straight for the dairy/meat substitutes, which caused weight gain, energy decrease, and I was NOT healthy. Instead of the new products (trust me there are SO many to try...but I wouldn't all at once), check out awesome blogs like Oh She Glows, get some amazing cookbooks, and go to town! You'll want to experiment with how to cook tofu properly, amazing chickpea curry recipes, nutritional yeast as a condiment on EVERYTHANG, and btw I have all those recipes and tips on here too! 😎🙌🏻

From Average to Awesome: How to SQUASH Self Doubt and ROCK Your Life!

vegetarian to vegan transformation

Tired, hopeless, self conscious, low self esteem, heavy, ugly, not fitting in any of my clothes, not feeling comfortable in anything I put on, feeling sick at the thought of a beach day, avoiding mirrors, feeling horrible after I ate...
Have you ever felt this way? 🙁
Girl, I've been there. I remember one of my biggest wake up calls was when my boyfriend had to physically push me up a mountain because I couldn't hike it myself.
😔🗻

With tears forming, breath wheezing, self love plummeting, I decided that day enough was enough. 🚫
No one could make me change but ME. I had to discover that mySELF. Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom to realize how long we have been stuck there.

vegan transformation

YOU are capable of anything you set your mind to. Want to be more positive? Change your state, blast some podcasts, make a happy playlist, and you're there (just do it daily).
Want more self confidence? 😎 Start being active, do incantations every day, get outside your comfort zone.
Want to stop being so shy? 🙈 DO more things. Make a point to talk to people you don't know--even if that's a cashier at a grocery store. Compliment people more, smile more. These are all things I did! ✌🏻️
YOU are in control. This is YOUR life, and yes sometimes we have to fall hard, wipe the tears up, realize that we will not be here forever...so it's time to just start. 🙌🏻
Start being the BEST damn version of yourself because the world should know and see and FEEL your awesomeness.
🤘🏻

If I can, you bet your beautiful self you can too.
Never let anyone tell you differently 😘✌🏻

Simple Vegan Sweet Potato Hash

simple vegan dish

Sweet potato noodles?! You better believe it! My obsession with zoodles is real, but it was time to change it up! :)

This is a super simple recipe I made up, so let's dive right in so you can enjoy!

Ingredients:

-1 package Beyond Beef "beefy" crumbles
-1 jar Engine 2 Red Bell Pepper Marinara
-1/2 white onion, chopped and sauteed with mushrooms and garlic
-1/4 container white mushrooms
-minced garlic
-pinch of chopped fresh basil
-1 container sweet potato noodles (available in Whole Foods produce section)
-cayenne pepper to taste
-Optional toppings: hot sauce, vegan parmesan, nutritional yeast

beyond beef recipes

Step 1: Cook the beyond beef crumbles. I don't add any spices to this, I just sauteed in olive oil until cooked evenly through--about 5 min on medium high. You can always add spices, but if it gets too dry, add some water--be sure to use a NON stick pan!

sweet potato noodles

Step 2: Open your sweet potato noodle container. I usually cook about half at a time so they cook evenly :)

quick vegan recipe

Step 3: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil over medium heat and add sweet potato noodles. Stir fry for a few minutes until somewhat brown :) Repeat with second half.

Step 4: Combine the beyond beef crumbles, cooked onion and mushrooms sauteed in garlic, with all the sweet potato noodles. Stir to combine for a few minutes.

Step 5: Add a pinch of chopped fresh basil, cayenne pepper, and stir to combine.

forks over knives recipe

Step 6: Add about a cup or so of the Engine 2 Marinara, turn heat down to medium low. Stir to combine for a few minutes to heat up the sauce and cook the basil further.

I divided the container up to about 3 servings--high protein, delicious, veggie packed goodness!

Step 7: Scoop a serving into a bowl, and I would recommend adding some hot sauce, nutritional yeast, and veggie parm to give it more flavor! :)

You can do the same recipe with zoodles, pasta, gluten free noodles, whatever!

Feel free to explore my blog for more vegan food inspiration, and shoot me an email if you are currently on your vegan journey or transitioning!

Simple Coconut Quinoa Curry Recipe

vegan curry recipe

This vegan curry recipe is one of my absolute FAVES!! Yes, it's vegan, but it's also omnivore boyfriend approved! ;)

If you have about 30 minutes to prepare a dish with simple items you can pick up from most grocery stores, this is a delish recipe to make for your fam, or meal prep for the week!

Shall we begin?

vegan meal prep

What you Need:

-1 cup uncooked quinoa
-1 tbsp coconut oil
-1 small white onion, diced
-2 cloves minced garlic (or more, go crazy!)
-3/4 cup broccoli, chopped
-1 red bell pepper, chopped
-1 can chickpeas, drained
-1/2 cup diced carrots
-1/4 cup diced tomato
-1/3 cup chopped snow peas (in half)
-1 tbsp curry powder
-cayenne pepper (to taste...or lots of it!)
-1 can light coconut milk (8 oz)
-1 cup veggie broth

quinoa recipe

Step 1: Begin by cooking the quinoa--make more if you like to have quinoa in bulk for the week (like I do!). Set aside.

being vegan

Step 2: Chop all the veggies, and get creative! You can definitely improvise and add more veggies if you'd like. This can be a great recipe to make when you have a ton of leftover veggies to use up! :)

easy vegan curry recipe

Step 3: In a large frying pan or sauce pan, use medium heat and add 1 tbsp coconut oil. Add the onion, garlic, carrot, broccoli, and a pinch of sea salt. Cook and stir until veggies soften (about 5-7 min).

vegan protein needs

Step 4: Add the curry powder, cayenne, veggie broth, and coconut milk. Stir. Then add in washed chickpeas, and if you happen to have leftover sweet potatoes, add those too! ;)
Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat slightly, stirring randomly for about 10 minutes.

21 day fix vegan recipe

Step 5: Add in the snow peas and tomatoes, stir for about 5 minutes (you don't want them to overcook). I added a bit more sea salt, and some hot sauce for a kick!

Serve over a bed of quinoa and enjoy!! :)
